Abstract

In providing care to the patient, nurses must have the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes. But these things vary according to the type of patient. One category is the age group. This study makes use of conjoint technique to come up the ideal nurse among twenty five (25) purposively selected seniors from an urban community in Bulacan. Using card-based conjoint analysis (n=25), this paper was commendable in uncovering of the preference among these population groups. Results show that seniors prefer young nurses (important estimate = .13) as their primary caregiver. They also chose female nurses (important estimate = .23), single nurses (important estimate =.57), firm behavior (important estimate = 1.9), competent nurses (important estimate =.70) and a graduate of master's degree in nursing (important estimate =.27). Lastly, in finding out the ideal attributes of a gerontologic nurse, the most essential aspect to consider among these attributes is the nurse's behavior in giving care to the elderly (important estimate = 45.58).
